Beginning Again
Day One
I was going to title this post, “Starting Over” but something about that title felt a little negative to me. It felt somewhat heavy. Which it is. Re-entry is always rough. In an effort to reframe my POV I welcomed the phrase, “Beginning Again”. That feels more aligned with how I feel.
A fresh start feels exciting. As I begin a new fitness journey I am filled with a curiosity that I don’t think I’ve had before. Instead of going through the motions for results (like in the past), I’ll be trying out things that interest me.
Over the next six months I want to learn as much as I can. Test out a few theories that seem worth a shot or too good to be true. Much of what I try will be nutrition related. I love eating and since food is such a huge part of being in shape it’s important to me to find healthy meals that taste good.
My goals for August include daily movement, hitting my protein and fiber, and documenting my journey here. I don’t have any numerical goals because that’s not really my style. My fitness journey is based on a feeling and a look. I’ll know it when I see it, lol. My guess would be that losing around 10 pounds would give me the look I’m going for. During a consultation at the gym the trainer said the same so let’s go with that for the folks that like numbers.
The only numbers that I’m tracking are the numbers on these weights. Seeing how strong I am has been encouraging. Being back in the gym feels different this time around. I think a lot of IDGAF comes with age and this time around I feel less pressed.
So here we are at day one. Beginning again. Today at the gym I did an upper body workout with a 20 minute walk as my warmup. I got my steps in outside walking my neighborhood. The weather was perfect. I love a pre or post rain walk.
More of these this month. Happy August. If you’re beginning again know you’re not alone. I’ll be here each day. Come back for updates and feel free to share your journey with me. 🖤
